Birth registration certificates are the first state recognition of Bangladeshi citizenship. Birth registration involves legally recording a citizen’s information in a government register. Birth and Death Registration Act 2004 makes online birth registration mandatory for all Bangladeshis.

Online birth registration without understanding or making a mistake can lead to many problems later. The birth registration application should be processed properly. Today, we will discuss how to register a birth online correctly and accurately.

Application for New Baby Birth Registration

If you wish to apply for birth registration online, visit https://bdris.gov.bd/br/application and select the address where you want to apply for birth registration. Apply by filling out the birth registration form with your name, date, and parents’ names. First, fill out the form with the child’s personal information.

Birth registration applications must be filled out in Bengali and English. In the date of birth box, enter your date of birth (dd-mm-yyyy). What Does it Take to Register a Birth?

All birth certificates are now available online. An online birth registration requires an EPI vaccination card, a hospital clearance, a house tax receipt, and the active mobile number of the parents. Birth Registration for Children Aged 0 to 45 Days

To register the birth of a child aged 0 to 45 days, the following documents and information are required:

  • Child’s Immunization Card or Hospital Clearance Certificate
  • House Tax Token or Tax Payment Receipt
  • Active Mobile Number of the guardian
  • Online Birth Registration Certificate of the parents (optional)
  • Parent’s ID Card (optional)

Birth Registration is All You Need if the Child is 46 to 5 Years Old

To register the birth of a child aged between 46 months and 5 years, you will need the following documents:

  • Child’s Immunization Card or Hospital Clearance Certificate
  • Online Birth Registration Certificate of the parents (if available)
  • NID Cards of both parents
  • House Tax Token or Tax Payment Receipt
  • Mobile Number of the parent or guardian
  • Certificate from the Head Teacher of the primary school (if applicable)

Over 5 Years Old

  • Doctor’s Certificate: Proof of age from a certified doctor (MBBS or higher, recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council).
  • Educational Records: Completion certificate of Primary Education, Junior School Certificate, or Secondary School Certificate issued by the Board of Education.
  • Parent’s Address Proof: Tax payment receipt, purchase deed of land or house, or rent receipt indicating the local address of the parent.
  • Parental Birth Registration: Online birth registration copies of both father and mother (if available).
  • Parental National Identity: Copies of National Identity Cards of both father and mother (if available).

New Rules for Applying for a Birth Registration

To fill out the application, go to the Birth and Death Registration Govt Website at https://bdris.gov.bd/br/application and enter the general information of the person, such as their name, date of birth, gender, and address.

Names should be written both in Bengali and English. Application for new birth registration has been divided into small steps to simplify the process. You can easily register your child’s birth online by following these simple steps.

Rule 1: Go to the Birth and Death Registration Site

Visit the Bangladesh Birth and Death Registration website to apply for birth registration. Please click on the following link to access the new application form: https://bdris.gov.bd/br/application After entering the site please select the address where you would like to register the birth.

For birth registration, birth place addresses, permanent addresses, or current addresses can be selected. Please select the address where you would like to pick up your birth registration certificate. You can also apply to the embassy if you live outside Bangladesh.

Rule 2: Provision of information on registered persons

A birth registration application requires the applicant to provide a few pieces of personal information. You will be asked to fill out a large form here. Names of registered persons should have both Bengali and English first and last parts. In this format, enter the date of birth (dd-mm-yyyy).

Choosing the year and month of your birth will appear when you click on the date of birth box. You will see a notice while entering your birth date. You can find out what documents are required based on your age there. Select the number of children in the family and whether they are male or female, then enter the address of the place of birth.

Your address should include the division, district, upazila, union, village name, and para or mohalla up to your residence. If it is a village and you don’t know your house number, enter a (-) dash. Once the form is filled with the correct information, click on the next button.

Rule 3: Provide Parent Information

Online birth registration requires parents to provide information. In Bengali and English capital letters, provide the father’s online birth registration number (if applicable).

Fill in the father’s national ID card number (optional). The mother’s name should be written in Bengali and English in the mother’s information room as well.

Please enter the 17-digit number from the mother’s online birth registration (optional) along with the ID card number. Mothers and fathers are not required to register their births online at present. To apply for birth registration online, parents had to first register their births online. Press the next button once the parent’s information has been entered.

Rule 4: Please Provide Your Current and Permanent Addresses

Application forms ask for the address of place of birth. You can enter your current and permanent address by selecting none, like in the image above. Your new address will now appear in a form.

You should tick the same place of birth address as shown in picture no.2 if the address given at the beginning is a permanent address.

If the permanent address and the current address are the same, then as in the 3rd picture, the automatic current and permanent addresses will be the same. Write the address by country, division, district, upazila, union / municipal council if the address is different.

Rule 5: Provide Applicant Information

The person applying for this birth registration must provide the required information. Registration of a child’s birth usually falls to the father, mother, grandfather, great-grandparent, great-grandparent or legal guardian.

The parents apply for the child’s birth registration. Your birth registration can also be applied for yourself. Select yourself if you apply yourself. You can also select Father, Mother, Grandfather, Grandmother, etc.

An active mobile number must be provided by the applicant. A message will be sent to this mobile phone informing you of various updates related to the application. You can use an email address (optional)

Rule 6: Upload the Documents

Documents must be uploaded as the final step of the application. While registering a minor child, a scanned copy of a vaccination card or land or house tax receipt should be uploaded. You can add multiple files if you wish. Each file should be less than 100kb in size. You can add more than one file by clicking the Add button.

Rule 7: Print the application form

You can take a printout of the application form after completing the online birth registration. Application forms do not need to be printed. This application number must be collected. You must collect your birth registration certificate within 15 days of submitting your application to the concerned union council or municipality.

If you submit a print copy of your application at the Registrar’s office or tell the officer in charge your application number, your birth registration certificate will be approved and printed.

You can register your baby for free from the time they are 0 days old to 45 days old. From 46 days to 5 years, the late registration fee is Tk 25, $1 abroad. After five years, the fee is 50 taka in the country and 1 dollar abroad. A late fee of Tk 100 is charged domestically and $2 abroad for the correction of date of birth. For correction of other information and supply of copies of certificates in Bengali and English, the application fee is Tk 50 domestically, $1 abroad.

Collection of Birth Registrations

A certificate of birth registration needs to be collected from the union or municipality you selected when you applied for new birth registration online. Within 15 days of applying for the birth registration with the city corporation, you must collect the certificate from the concerned office.

In the event that the certificate is not collected within 15 days, the application will automatically be canceled. Birth registration certificates should be downloaded, signed, and sealed by the secretary in charge. You will then need to obtain the seal and signature from the mayor or the chairman of the municipality.

New Rules for Birth Registration Cancellation

A birth registration application can be canceled at the Union Parishad, Municipality or Councilor office where the application was filed. To cancel an application, it is necessary to know the application ID. Send a cancellation request explaining why you wish to cancel the application.

Within 15 days after applying for new birth registration, if it is not approved, it will be automatically canceled. An application can be canceled by the Registrar if there is a mistake in it. The application can be canceled if you have made any mistakes. You have to wait 15 days if you cannot cancel by going to the office. You can then reapply.
